The school common lottery opens on December 10th (apply here), and Miner Elementary School has scheduled several open house dates for PreK3 and PreK4 families. We would love for you to join us for one of the sessions - children are welcome! All open houses will begin in the Parent Center in Room 103.
If you come to a daytime session, your child can join one of our Early Childhood Education (ECE) classes for a while. If nights are better for you, you'll get a tour of our ECE wing, and if you come to the January 8th open house, you are welcome to stay for our PTO meeting afterwards. No need to RSVP. We look forward to seeing you!
Note that Miner is a DCPS "Early Action" school, so if you're in bounds for Miner, you're guaranteed a PreK3/PreK4 seat if you include Miner on your lottery application. On Halloween day, Miner hosted three fun events for our Mighty Bears:
Book-o-WeenBook-o-ween was a fun-filled morning for our youngest Bears. Dressed as their favorite storybook characters, they had a parade, decorated pumpkins, had a glow/dance party, enjoyed festive snacks, and had an all around great time. So many families came out to join in the fun with their students! The PreK Parent Committee put a lot of hard work into the event, and it was our best yet! Special thanks go out to Miner's Family Services Coordinator, Ms. Brissett, and PreK Parent Committee co-chairs Jamie Milhous, and Eddie Minor for organizing the event. And the event would not have been such a great success without all our parent volunteers - thank you! October VIPStudents in K-5 who earned 80% or greater positive Dojo points were invited to an afternoon of fun in the gym, including the bounce castle. Great job to all our Miner Bears for their positive behavior and dedication to learning! OktoberfestMiner's annual Oktoberfest party was another great success! Everyone had an amazing night of dancing, games, bouncing in the castle, painting pumpkins, enjoying delicious food and treats, and participating in a costume contest and "trunk-or-treating." It was an amazing group effort to organize and make happen, led by the co-chairs of the PTO's Family Engagement & Events Committee: Mariana Jones and Ms. Dorsey. Special thanks go out to: DJ Tony Reddz for keeping the kids dancing all night long; author Roman Montague for sharing the sea world adventures of the “Ocean Bowl” characters; Insomnia Cookies for sponsoring our “cake” walk; Dia Johnson and her catering team for the amazing food; all the teachers and staff who participated in trunk-or-treating on the blacktop; and to all the parents who volunteered to assist at the event. The PTO is so grateful to everyone who participated and hope that everyone had as much fun as our students did!
