We are so proud of the way our community came together last weekend for our 5th Annual Holiday Greenery Sale. Thanks to your efforts, it was in many ways the most successful we’ve ever had. We had more preorders than ever and were entirely sold out by the first hour of the in-person sale! Thanks to that incredible demand, and to generous support from our local business partners (more on them below) we managed to raise more than $11,000! Every dime of that money will go toward ongoing support of our teachers and students.
More importantly, thanks to the incredible efforts of our volunteers, we handled that huge increase in demand in a safe environment in compliance with guidelines on in-person gatherings. Customers waited patiently in line and volunteers remained cheerful through rain and wind to make sure everyone got their greenery in an orderly manner. Thanks to the generosity of people who donated trees, we also provided 12 trees to families struggling economically in this incredibly difficult year. A HUGE thank you to all of you who donated time or ordered your greenery from our sale this year. Your dedication is what makes this work possible. And finally, a big thank you to the local businesses who agreed to support our school community by sponsoring the sale:
We are thrilled that this sale has become such an important part of the holiday traditions of our community and look forward to building on this success next year to make that the best sale ever! In the meantime, a happy holiday season and New Year to all of you. Miner's Green Team is partnering with Arcadia's Mobile Market to bring local produce to the community! To celebrate the holiday season, we will be distributing 50 boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables. See below for how to sign up for a box in you are in need of one:
Sign Up: Complete this online form or call Ms. Kraemer at (202) 656-0719. Pick Up: Pick up your box at the Mutual Aid Network's Community Table event at Miner on Saturday, December 19th from 11:00 am - 1:30 pm. Please note that if you do not reserve a box prior to December 19th, additional produce boxes will be distributed during the event while supplies last. The Miner Mutual Aid Network will hold its monthly Community Table at Miner on December 19 from 11am-2pm. This event is open to the entire Miner community and we encourage everyone to come out and support each other. Masks and social distancing will be required.
With the holiday season upon us, we want to ensure our community is supported. This event will feature:
Donations: Due to the overwhelming support of our community, we no longer need food donations for this event. However, we are asking for donations of new and still sealed children’s toys and supplies for present wrapping (wrapping paper, gift bags, tape). We will also be accepting winter clothing. If you have items you would like to donate, or have questions about donations, please contact Miner Mutual Aid at [email protected]. Flu Shots: This Community Table will feature FREE flu shots administered by CVS Pharmacy. Flu shots are available for those 12 and up, and children ages 12-18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. To process flu shots for all who need them, please RSVP and select your time slot using this link. Please note, CVS can administer one flu shot every five minutes. When you select your block of time, indicate how many members of your household you would like to receive a shot. There is no cost to getting a flu shot. If you have insurance, please bring your insurance card. If you do not have insurance, the cost will be covered by the Miner PTO. Volunteers: If you are interested in volunteering to support the event, please click here. Thank you all for your support. In solidarity, The Miner Mutual Aid Action Team Miner's Green Team and the garden program are pleased to present Miner's December garden newsletter.
