A few quick shout-outs to thank the Miner community for contributing to what was a pretty busy final week before the start of Winter Break: First, I’d like to thank the PTO’s vice president, Julie Muir, for leading the effort to purchase and wrap 25 toys and other gifts which were provided to Miner’s social workers to distribute to students who might not otherwise receive many gifts this Christmas. The PTO’s ability to do this was aided greatly by a generous donation from the H St. Community Development Corporation (http://www.hstreetcdc.org/). Thank you HSCDC for your support of Miner! Second, I’d like to echo the appreciation expressed by Jessica and Justin Burniske regarding the PTO’s holiday cookie drive. It was amazing to see so many incredible treats donated by parents so the staff could take home something sweet for the break. Lastly, I’d like to pass on a message from Ms. Mears and the Kindergarten team: “Thank you to all the families and staff for supporting the holiday shop! We sold out and raised $415. It was a wonderful experience for students to give to others. I am truly excited for all our kindergarteners!” Thank you again for being a part of our incredible Miner community! Have a restful Winter Break and we’ll see you in 2018!

The PTO accepts cash, checks (payable to "Miner PTO), and credit cards. We'll be set up in the mail hallway during drop off every morning until the start of Winter Break. You can also email us at [email protected] to arrange a time to make a purchase if you're not available during morning drop off. The PTO also has a limited inventory of t-shirts imprinted with last year's design. These are available for $7 for youth sizes and $10 for adult sizes, for both short and long sleeves. However, only certain combinations of color, style, and size combinations are still in stock. Thank you for supporting Miner and showing your Miner Bear pride wherever you go!
The PTO’s second annual Holiday Greenery & Bake sale was an incredible success! By selling nearly 200 trees and dozens of wreaths and garlands, we raised $4,000 to be used in the PTO’s efforts to directly support Miner’s students and teachers. The response from the community was overwhelming, and it was great to see so many neighbors and friends of Miner attend the sale. And of course we are pleased that so many Miner families were able to purchase their perfect Christmas tree, holiday greenery, and tasty treats from us! At the conclusion of the sale, the PTO donated a tree to the school, which has already been set up on the stage and festively decorated by students and staff (see photo at right). Lindsey Jones-Renaud and Mariana Jones, the co-chairs of the PTO’s Fundraising & Grants Committee, did an amazing job leading and coordinating this major undertaking. It is because of their tireless dedication to Miner that the sale was such a success. Thank you Lindsey and Mariana! The PTO would also like to extend its appreciation to all the Miner parents and staff who volunteered their time working during the sale and donating goodies for the bake sale! Parents who braved the cold to assist customers, haul trees, trim trunks and branches, and bundle and load into and onto cars include Hayden Aaronson, Heidi Altman & Scott Roehm, Lolly Axley & Marc Borbely, Andrew Curry, Shauna Eisenberg, Amber Harlow, Nick Heitger, John Muir, Terri Rupar, Matt & Sara Saxton, and Tiffany Stewart. Special thanks go out to Miner teachers and staff who were right in there with the parents: Principal Jackson, Ms. Cummings, Mr. Dante Daniel, Ms. Dorsey, Ms. G. Harris, and Ms. Kathryn Hunt Wisnoski. Thanks again everyone! The Miner community truly is amazing! Go Mighty Bears! Having a book fair is always a huge undertaking. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Jackson, Principal and Mr. Treat, PTO President for advertising the fair with families and friends. I would also like to thank everyone who came to our Book Fair. Thanks to our volunteers (Mrs. Davis, Art Teacher, Mary Bakota, Ann Taylor, Diane Reeves, John Muir, James Caparas, and Becky Shyovitz) who took time from their busy schedule the week before Thanksgiving to help decorate, setup, restock and rearrange items, and help our students to bargain shop. I know it was a lot of work, but you were incredible volunteers and I appreciate your assistance. Thanks for your patience, dedication, hard work, commitment, and energy. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Although we didn’t achieve our target goal ($4,190), we achieved $3,269.44 in total fair sales. Thanks again for your support and we look forward to seeing you at our spring book fair. Happy Holidays! Michelle "Shelley" Williams School Librarian |
