Thank you so much to all who joined us today at Community Day! From the crew that showed up at 9am to set up to the team that stayed beyond 3pm to clean up, and everyone in between, we are so grateful to all of you! Whether you cleaned up with Green Team or handed out school supplies or took a school tour or jumped in the bounce castle, you made today so much fun!
We especially want to give a big shout out to our Community School Coordinator, Ms. Woodson, for organizing such a great event, and a huge thank you to our Green Team for leading an awesome group of volunteers in our Campus Clean Up. And today wouldn’t have been nearly as successful without the support of our friends and partners at Christ City Church, Edgewood/Brookland, and Zeta Phi Beta. We are fortunate to have such an amazing Miner Bear Community!
Good Morning Families,
Welcome back to Miner ES for SY 21-22! I'm so excited to meet each and every one of you and your scholars. I have attached my beginning of the school year document to provide updates for Monday, along with ASK, ASK, LOOK checklist. Please review the documents and feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. Again, I'm excited for Monday and seeing all my Mighty Miner Bears!
Yours in service,
Please join us at Miner Elementary on Saturday, August 28 for a Community Day to celebrate the last weekend of summer before the students return to school! The festivities (which include food, a play date, school supplies, a chance to meet Miner staff, and more) begin at 11am, but starting at 10am our Green Team is sponsoring a Campus Clean Up so the school grounds are looking good to welcome the students back on Monday!
Please see the attached flyers for all the event info and feel free to reach out with any questions. We can’t wait to see you there!
We hope everyone is having a wonderful summer! Please take a moment to read through Principal Angry's Welcome Letter which has some school updates.
August 3, 2021
Dear Parents and Families of Miner Elementary School,
As Miner’s Instructional Superintendent for the upcoming 2021-2022 School Year, I am committed to helping our school leaders provide joyful and rigorous educational experiences geared toward the learning and success of all students. Communicating home about school leadership updates is a critical part of maintaining strong partnerships with families.
I am reaching out to inform you that as of July 30, 2021, Principal Jessica Greer has resigned as the leader of Miner Elementary School due to personal health reasons. She was ready to lead Miner as an emphatic and passionate principal, and I know she was deeply saddened to make this difficult decision. We will continue to keep her in our thoughts and wish her all the best.
During this transition, our very capable Miner administrative team, led by AP Lee, has been handling the day-to-day operations with ease and I have been available to ensure students, staff, and families are supported. Since learning of this news, I also worked with DC Public Schools leadership to identify a new school leader. With that, I am pleased to announce that Ms. Katrel Angry has accepted the position of Interim Principal of Miner Elementary for the upcoming school year.
Ms. Angry has a long-standing commitment to ensuring that all students are provided the opportunity to perform at their full potential, regardless of race, gender, or economic background. She has devoted her professional life to supporting student’s social-emotional well-being and building school cultures that embrace and promote student empowerment, individuality, and achievement.
Ms. Angry is an accomplished educator and administrator with over 20 years of experience in the field of education. She has worked as a teacher, International Baccalaureate Coordinator, Instructional Coach, and Assistant Principal. As an Assistant Principal at Peabody Elementary School, she established a partnership and led the early childhood team to be a “Creative Curriculum” model for other district and regional educators. Most recently, she was Assistant Principal at Thomson Elementary School.
It is important to us all that our school environment remains conducive to the learning and success of all students, and that this transition does not drastically impact the academic instruction of our students. I appreciate your continued support in ensuring smooth operations at the school. To answer any questions and provide an opportunity to meet Principal Angry, I will host an information session on Tuesday, August 10th at 6:00 p.m.
If you have any questions, you can reach me via email at email@example.com.
