Pre-K 3 Teachers and Instructional Aides
Dawn Smith, a fourth generation Washingtonian, comes from a family of educators. Ms. Smith is excited to be joining the Mighty Miner community. Smith, who earned her bachelor’s degree from Xavier University of Louisiana and her Master of Education from The George Washington University, has taught preschool to third grade for over 20 years in DCPS. When Smith is not teaching, she spends her time, especially during the summer watching commercial airplanes take off or land at Gravelly Point near the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Flight memorizes Smith. When the weather begins to get cooler, one can find Smith near a TV every weekend because she is a HUGE football fan-rooting for the Dawgs [Georgia Bulldogs] and The Black and Yellow [Pittsburgh Steelers]! Recently, Smith has shown a strong interest in pottery and photography.

ELL Specialist- Sasha Shahidinejad has always known she wanted to work with children. She studied Early Childhood Education at Boston University and decided to move to California. There, she began preparing her second graders who were Spanish speakers to transition to an all English classroom. Then, she taught Science to 5th graders along with some English Language classes. After a few years in California, Sasha moved to Washington, DC to be closer to her twin brother and his family and started teaching at a Spanish Immersion school. Then, she taught 2nd grade at an independent school. More recently, Sasha has been taking care of her daughter and educated her and another child in the neighborhood while tutoring home school students. On the weekends, you can find her spending time with her family and volunteering with virtues classes for younger children.
