Miner Elementary School Welcomes Dr. Janet Hubka!Presentation and Q&A: Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the Miner Gymnasium Miner is hosting a very special event April 5, and you’re invited! As part of the USA Science & Engineering Festival “Nifty Fifty” series, we will have a very special guest speaker who will speak with Miner’s students and parents about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). This is the second year in a row that our school has been honored with a guest STEM speaker as part of the USA Science & Engineering Festival. This year Miner welcomes Dr. Janet Hubka! Dr. Hubka uses scientific art (immunofluorescent images) of human cells as the foundation of her talk: "The Art of Science: Taking Art to the Cellular Level." The initial engagement for the students is the amazing beauty of the cells within our bodies, stem cells, etc. Then Dr. Hubka discusses how the body regenerates tissue or organs after injury and what scientists are doing in their labs to help facilitate their discovery. This includes stem cell research on the International Space Station and their challenges, and stem cell research at the San Diego Zoo and TSRI to help save the Northern White Rhino from extinction. More information about Dr. Hubka can be found here: usasciencefestival.org/people/janet-hubka/ Miner Point of Contact: Ms. Alesha Russey, STEM Coordinator ([email protected]) Comments are closed.
