Message from the Principal
Back to School Night is almost HERE!
Dear Mighty Miner Bears,
We had an INCREDIBLE first week at school last week! We've welcomed almost 400 students to our classrooms, playgrounds, cafeteria, library, and other learning spaces. The joy and learning are in full effect. Thank you to our PTO for hosting back to school coffee and donuts for our families on both Monday and Thursday! We appreciated the care and the community!
Back to School Night is already here! Please join us on Thursday, 9/3 at 5 pm. We will start in the cafeteria to talk about school wide updates as a Title 1 school. From there, parents are invited to go to their child's classroom and here the teacher presentation.
5:00–5:30 PM | Whole Group Meeting – Cafeteria
Families will begin the evening together in the cafeteria. During this time, we will share Title I information, school wide expectations, staff introductions, and other important information for families.
5:30–6:00 PM | Classroom Session 1
Families will transition to classrooms to meet with teachers and learn more about classroom expectations, academics, routines, and the school year.
6:00–6:30 PM | Classroom Session 2
Our second session will give families with multiple children an opportunity to visit another classroom.
This Friday we are beyond excited to welcome our very first author/illustrator visit to Miner! Our PK4 - 3rd grade students will hear from Author Traci Todd and Illustrator Vashti Harrison. Their new book, "That You Are Here is No Small Thing" explores Black History, resilience and ancestry. Email me if you would like to purchase a signed copy of their book: carrie.broquard@k12.dc.gov. Thank you also to People's Book Store in Takoma Park for sponsoring this incredible opportunity for our students.
Aftercare/Enrichment
This year we are also VERY excited to welcome a new partner - Active Play! Active Play will be providing afterschool enrichment classes at Miner (for a small fee) for our students PK3 - 5th grade! There are also scholarship opportunities available! See the flyer below for more details. Registration closes on Friday, 9/4!!!!!!

Have you updated your health paperwork? Nurse Anderson is on campus every day to accept your updated physical forms! Every child must have an updated physical (universal health certificate) on file. We also need updated asthma action plans, anaphylaxis plans, and any updated medications. Have questions for Nurse Anderson? Give her a call at 202-671-6193.
