SCHOOL POLICIES

Attendance

Students should be in school, on time, each and every day.  School begins daily at 8:45 am and concludes at 3:15 for all students (except those who continue in an afterschool program). Picking students up early is not only disruptive for your child but also for peers and will be limited.  Unless the student has a scheduled doctors appointment we ask that they not be picked up during the last hour of their day unless a true emergency arises.

Drop Off

Students will be dropped in two different ways based on grade level.

Grades K-5: Parents and students will enter the building through the main doors (on the 15th St side) starting at 8:20 AM and proceed directly to the cafeteria. Students will sit by grade level and have breakfast. Teachers will then pick students up from the cafeteria and escort them to class between 8:40 AM and 8:45 AM.

Pre-Kindergarten: Parents and students will enter the building through the main doors (on the 15th St side) starting at 8:20 AM and proceed to their assigned drop off room. Classroom Instructional Aides will be in the drop off rooms to supervise students until 8:45 AM.  Parents may drop off their child directly in the classroom between 8:45 AM and 9:00 AM. Note that after 9 AM students will be escorted to the room by school staff to reduce interruption to the learning environment). All students will be provided breakfast in the classroom between 8:45 AM and 9:00 AM each day. Parents are asked to depart the classrooms at 9:00 AM so that instruction can begin.

Parking Lot

During morning drop off and afternoon pick up parents are asked to park in the large square lot.  The circular lot will be reserved for staff parking and bus drop off and pick up.

Pick Up

All: We hope to maximize instruction and minimize distractions, so students cannot be picked up from 2:30 PM – 3:10 PM, unless there is an emergency or necessary appointment. Doors will open at 3:15 for student pickup. Students are only allowed to be picked up by pre-designated individuals age 13 year or older. Please do not send anyone to pick up your child that you have not pre-authorized.  In order to ensure student safety, we will not release students to unauthorized individuals.  We ask that parents and guardians ensure they have their proper photo ID with them to speed up the pick-up process. Once teachers know families, they may not always check, but in the event that a substitute or other staff is present we do require those completing pick up to have identification.

Grades 1-5: At 3:15, students will assemble in the gym for pick up. For students that are not in afterschool, they will need to be picked up by 3:25. For older students that walk, they will be dismissed as their classes come to the gym.

Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten: At 3:15, Kindergarten students will assemble in the Kindergarten hallway and Pre-Kindergarten students will assemble on the ECE playground.  Parents should report directly to the ECE playground and/or ECE and Kindergarten exit doors on the south side of the school from the exterior of the building – there is no need to enter the school first for normal dismissal.

Afterschool: All students will be signed out from the appropriate aftercare desk.

All parents/guardians are required to sign in daily with security upon entering the building.  While this can sometimes feel like a burden it is essential to ensuring that your child's safety and security is cared for.  Security is required to implement a 100% ID check.  We ask that parents and guardians ensure they have their proper photo ID with them to speed up the sign-in process.

Supplies

Grades K-5: Students are requested to have a back pack for books, homework, and so the school can send home a daily or weekly communication folder.  A list of other required supplies will be provided by your child's teacher. If you are in need of a backpack or other supplies, please see your child's teacher or a school social worker.

Pre-Kindergarten: Students are requested to have a back pack so the school can send home a daily or weekly communication folder, a nap roll or blanket for rest time, and a change of clothing (accidents happen).  Those are the only required items. If you want to donate to the teacher, you are welcome to give them items such as tissues and hand sanitizer.  All other supplies are provided by DCPS and the school. If you are in need of a backpack, blanket, or change of clothes, please see your child's teacher or a school social worker.
