Dear Parents and Families of Miner Elementary School, As Miner’s Instructional Superintendent for the upcoming 2021-2022 School Year, I am committed to helping our school leaders provide joyful and rigorous educational experiences geared toward the learning and success of all students. Communicating home about school leadership updates is a critical part of maintaining strong partnerships with families. I am reaching out to inform you that as of July 30, 2021, Principal Jessica Greer has resigned as the leader of Miner Elementary School due to personal health reasons. She was ready to lead Miner as an emphatic and passionate principal, and I know she was deeply saddened to make this difficult decision. We will continue to keep her in our thoughts and wish her all the best. During this transition, our very capable Miner administrative team, led by AP Lee, has been handling the day-to-day operations with ease and I have been available to ensure students, staff, and families are supported. Since learning of this news, I also worked with DC Public Schools leadership to identify a new school leader. With that, I am pleased to announce that Ms. Katrel Angry has accepted the position of Interim Principal of Miner Elementary for the upcoming school year. Ms. Angry has a long-standing commitment to ensuring that all students are provided the opportunity to perform at their full potential, regardless of race, gender, or economic background. She has devoted her professional life to supporting student’s social-emotional well-being and building school cultures that embrace and promote student empowerment, individuality, and achievement. Ms. Angry is an accomplished educator and administrator with over 20 years of experience in the field of education. She has worked as a teacher, International Baccalaureate Coordinator, Instructional Coach, and Assistant Principal. As an Assistant Principal at Peabody Elementary School, she established a partnership and led the early childhood team to be a “Creative Curriculum” model for other district and regional educators. Most recently, she was Assistant Principal at Thomson Elementary School. It is important to us all that our school environment remains conducive to the learning and success of all students, and that this transition does not drastically impact the academic instruction of our students. I appreciate your continued support in ensuring smooth operations at the school. To answer any questions and provide an opportunity to meet Principal Angry, I will host an information session on Tuesday, August 10th at 6:00 p.m. If you have any questions, you can reach me via email at shawn.stover@k12.dc.gov. Sincerely, John O. Stover III (Shawn) Instructional Superintendent, Cluster IV Miner families and staff are invited to celebrate Family Fun Day at Miner hosted by our friends and partners at Edgewood/Brookland.
