Alert Status on 9/16/2024

Dear Miner Elementary School Parents and Families,
 
At Miner, we are committed to ensuring a safe school environment for our students. Communicating home about incidents that impact our school community is critical to maintaining strong partnerships with families.
 
Today, around 12:55 p.m., school administration was alerted to the sound of gunshots in the neighborhood. To ensure the safety of our students and staff, we immediately conducted a reverse evacuation, bringing everyone who was outside back into our building. We went into alert status and notified DC Public Schools (DCPS) Police who arrived to investigate. 
 
During alert status, entering and exiting the building is not permitted, but instruction and student movement throughout the building occurs as usual. Please be assured students and staff remained safe and accounted for during this time.
 
At 1:20 p.m., MPD cleared us to resume normal building operations. The remainder of the school day continued as planned.
