Early Childhood Education

Reggio-inspired Creative Curriculum is the heart of Miner's Early Childhood Program

The Early Childhood Education program at Miner Elementary utilizes Creative Curriculum like many DCPS schools. At Miner, we go a step further and apply many principals of the Reggio Emilia approach to further enrich the learning experiences of our students.

The Creative Curriculum is a comprehensive, research-based and proven curriculum that supports active learning and promotes children’s progress in all developmental areas.

The Reggio Emilia Approach is an educational philosophy for preschool and primary education that encourages learning through exploration and discovery in a supportive and enriching environment.
The Units of Study evolve from the children's interests which develop through their interactions and play. Exploration in the community is integrated into the units of study. Students become the docents of their work by infusing the Creative Curriculum units with their interest areas, which directly ties with the project-based work of Reggio Emilia.
